I am a beginner, not a pro, why would I need a coach?

Novice athletes can benefit greatly from coaching; just as much as an elite athlete. Getting the right instruction in the beginning keeps you from turning bad form into bad habit, prevents injury, and promotes confidence. Most of our athletes are not pros, but busy people who want to make the most efficient and effective use of their training time.


There are so many coaching options, how do I select the right one?

How can someone coach me online?

Communication is the key to coaching and the coaching software we use is the most advanced coaching tool available. The coach can design and modify a custom plan as needed, and obtain a wide variety of information from the athlete, including nutritional data, heart rate, power, GPS, and other uploads.  This allows the coach to analyze the athletes speed, cadence, elevation, pace, power, and heart rate data from a single work out.  The athlete also fills out a daily coaching log that provides the coach with the information necessary to coach them effectively. Remote coaching has been around for years as athletes travel to events without their coaches. It is now being perfected using state of the art technology over the internet.

What is an Annual Training Plan and why do I need it?

An ATP is your macroplan for the season. Since peak fitness can only be held for a short time your ATP matches your peak fitness with your goal races. Your training will go through phases leading up to each peak. An ATP keeps you from training too hard, too easy, or too much.  This is perhaps the most important step in aligning a successful season.


I would like to loose weight with my training. Can the coach help me with this?

The coach will give you your sport nutrition parameters and guidelines. It is up to the athlete to match their diet with these guidelines. This can be accomplished in detail using the online diet analysis software included in the online coaching program. For specific recommendations, counseling, and analysis it is best to consult with our Registered Dietician and Sport Nutritionist.


My training is not going very well and I have some questions. Can you help?

Absolutely, our coaches are available to get you pointed in the right direction. If you need specific direction a coach is available for hourly consult over the phone. Once an agenda is set the coach will work with you to get your problems solved. I would like to implement strength training into my plan. How do I go about doing this?

Sport specific strength work is very different than general fitness strength training. Each sport and athlete has specific use for strength training. Implementing this into your plan without detrimentally affecting your other work outs can be challenging. It is best to get with a coach or trainer with experience in your sport for specific instruction and guidance. The Sport Factory members area contains downloadable strength training plans available to all Sport Factory athletes.


Do I need to get tested?

The coach will use performance tests to grade progress, but clinical tests are more accurate and provide more data. Metabolic testing or power testing is another tool in the tool box and is highly useful information for the coach and athlete.
